A horror-comedy with over-the-top acting, gruesome death scenes, as well as an unconventional format of storytelling. It is not the horror one expects to obtain.

Josh Ruben successfully creates a rom-com slasher mash-up, using 90s tropes and kitschy dialogues. Though fun enough to entertain for a romantic evening with your partner, it falls at times into the cliché trap it tries to mock. Also, the final reveal is somewhat disappointing. That said, it contains Devon Sawa as a grumpy cop, plus the two leads play well enough off each other. The kills are gory, the camera doesn’t shy away, and the majority of the jokes do land.

Though it isn’t a perfect action piece, Havoc is a refreshing take on its subgenre. The character-driven plot contrasts with the persistent rapid pacing. Though original, the use of standard topics hinders its uniqueness. Hardy gives a nuanced performance as Detective Walker, though it is Quelin Sepulveda, who steals the show with her stellar performance.
